St. John's Day broke in Lithuania. At least for a short time to forget what kind of fire we live next to.Many revelers of the holiday jumped over the St. John's bonfires, but the real bonfire was burning in society and state institutions, which made an ambiguous decision to limit the transit of goods to the Kaliningrad region. What happened? It is possible to ignore the rant raised by all kinds of commentators and political scientists, just to bite the rulers or to glorify the cynical attack of Aidas Gedvilas, a member of the Seimas from Darby, against the Prime Minister. But serious politicians, such as the MEP Petras Auštrevičius, who led the EU accession negotiations team, praise their compatriots for their "uncompromising position that it is necessary to follow previously agreed tactics and not give in to Russian pressure".The fundamental issue of the debate is whether to allow the transportation of sanctioned goods through the territory of the EU, if they are not being transported to any other country, but "from Russia to Russia".The terms of the sanctions do not provide for this circumstance, and it can be interpreted in any way.A document was created and is being considered in the European Commission, which should clarify this condition at the request of Vilnius. As they say, a small thing, but unpleasant...Mr. Auštrevičius suggests that Ingrida Šimonyta beat her chest and publicly repent for making a rash decision. He is also, and perhaps rightly so, hammering the President, who has been slow to announce his clear position on the issue. It turns out like this: the EU introduced sanctions, Lithuania rushed to implement them diligently and was in a hurry to be blamed.EK once again puts all the responsibility on Vilnius: it's as if you have boiled porridge and spilled it yourself.Mr. Auštrevičius stokes the fire from a distance and prophesies a constitutional crisis in Lithuania. In other words, new parliamentary elections and a change of Government...EC once again puts all the responsibility on VilniusAnyway, such a development of events would be a normal democratic life, if not for one circumstance: Russia is rubbing its hands. In Donetsk, she not only pushed herself into the heart of Ukraine, conquering new positions, but won another victory in the international arena - she scared Brussels. This, in the words of Dalia Grybauskaitė, begins to hesitate, makes concessions to Moscow and "from the sick head to the healthy one" puts all the responsibility for the transit on Lithuania. So is it worth talking about the unity of the European Union?Moscow's propaganda is already having fun: they say, the Lithuanians are properly frightened. It was enough to tap the foot that Lithuania will be blocked from the sea, and "the time for talks is over" when Brussels and Vilnius decided to "refine" their sanctions.Lithuanian propagandists rushed to claim that Lithuania was pandering to Brussels and engaging in hypocrisy.Political scientist Tomas Janeliūnas, head of programs at the Center for Eastern European Studies, sends the entire outdated society of Western Europe and the inactive Government of Lithuania to the dog days, although he himself avoids giving any recipes...But there is also good news. The long-awaited news reached Ukraine on Thursday evening - the Council of European Leaders granted it the status of a candidate for the EU.As early as February 28, as soon as the war began, Kyiv submitted a request, although it had long cherished the hope of joining the community. This status was also granted to Moldova, which, as we know, is almost the poorest country in Europe. But Sakartveli will have to wait: this is Tbilisi's fee for appeasing Russia...Moscow said that this move does not bother it.It is an internal matter of the EU.But in reality, its efforts to antagonize the community, which announces new sanctions packages against Moscow, have been evident since 2013, when former Ukrainian leader Viktor Yanukovych, avoiding his country's associate membership in the EU, signed an agreement on visa-free communication and duty-free trade with Brussels. Then, as the portal Graniru.org recalls, Moscow was furious and ordered V. Yanukovych to abandon this agreement. It was not ratified by the Rada. But then the Maidan began...Now the Kremlin announces with a sour grimace that Ukraine's integration into the EU is an "internal matter of the community" and that it is guided by "pragmatic calculations".Someone has said that if all tyrannies behaved rationally, they would be eternal.Russia's war in Ukraine not only accelerates its integration, the strengthening of NATO's positions on the Eastern flank, but also brings the disintegration of Russia itself closer. Why do the peoples of Russia need an isolated, war-weary and ever-thirsty empire?Subscription to the Lithuanian Echo newspaper |Prenumerata.lthttps://prenumerata.lt/prenumerata/lietuvos-aidas #SUPPORT "LITHUANIA AIDAS"!In order to survive and continue to be necessary for Lithuania and the entire nation, we strongly request all people who are indifferent to free speech, history and truth to contribute to the publication of the newspaper.Support - our checking account.Luminor Bank AB, Bank code 40100.YOU CAN SUPPORT "LITEUVOS AIDO" PUBLICATION© State newspaper "Lietuvos aidas"; e-mail fondas@aidas.lt, lietuvosaidas1917@gmail.com phone +370 651 75795; +370 698 11105 Pilies St. 18-3B, LT- 01124, Vilnius
